Frank on Food: Clay Hill Farm

A layman's take on fine dining.

Tonight I went to dinner at Clay Hill Farm in Cape Neddick, Maine.
I started off with a Wild Maine Blueberry Martini - which was absolutely fabulous. It was even healthy since it contained a couple fresh Maine blueberries.
The rolls arrived hot, and the butter was slightly flavored - with what, I couldn't tell you.
My appetizer was the Lobster Bisque - which was awesome. It took some self control on my part to not lick the bowl clean.
The salad was a house spinach salad - it was good but simple; had some dried cranberries, pistachios, and a maple vinaigrette.
My entree was the Grilled Tenderloin of Beef - this came on mushroom risotto cake, which seems to be fancy talk for rice patty. This too was very well prepared.
And I finished off with the Chocolate Oblivion - this was a flourless chocolate confection with raspberry glaze. I know chocolate and raspberry are suppose to go well together, but in this case they didn't. I don't know if they made it too sweet or too condensed, but it was not two tastes that tasted great together. Luckily the glaze was pretty much just on the sides of the plate, so I was able to enjoy just the chocolate confection, which was quite good by its self.
The restaurant was nicely decorated with fresh flowers and real candles on each table. Valet parking was required.
Drinks, Appetizers, Entrees, and Dessert for two cost just over $100.
I'd say it's a nice place to go for a special occasion. I give it 4.5 out of 5.
They lost points for the unmemorable salad, the uncomplimentary raspberry glaze, and for trying to double bill me for my dessert. But overall great food in a lovely setting.

So I was cooking up some chicken, and went looking through my spice rack for something to add it. Came across some Italian Seasoning, figured I give it a try. Now my kitchen smells like a coffee house in Amsterdam. So can one of you culinary types tell me, does Italian Season smell like pot when it burns? Or did someone just think that was a safe place to hide their stash, since I never cook?

Don't know what he's smoking, but I wish more people smoked it.

Spore

I was playing around with the character generator for a game that will be coming out in September called Spore. The game starts with you being a single celled organism and ends with the species that you evolve into venturing out into the universe. I found out you can make anatomically correct creatures in this program. Check under the cut for my first creature.

So I went furniture shopping this weekend and I think I found the set I'm going to get. I'm going to ponder it over and decide next weekend. I'm even being optimistic and getting a king sized bed in the hopes that I will find someone to occupy the other side. Pictures of what I'm thinking of getting under the cut.

Updated: Purchased the set, made a couple of changes, updated the pics to reflect the actaul pieces I'm getting. Now I just have to patiently wait 8 or weeks.
